Democrats in a Tug of War!

tugofwar.jpg

I love being a Democrat!  Last night’s primary and caucus results in Texas have made me so hopeful.  The number of people voting in this primary is astounding and it is encouraging to have people voting again.  Many attribute this to Senator Obama being so charismatic.  I believe that is part of it, but make no mistake, having Senator Clinton in the race has brought MANY to the polls too.

It astounds me that Chris Matthews continues to hammer on Hillary Clinton.  Last night he reminded us that Obama leads in delegates and that Clinton should accept that, inferring that she should quit the race.  What a lot of horse hockey!  This is the first time in many, many years that this many Democrats have even gone to the polls and voiced their opinions.  What is so wrong about letting the process take it’s course and finally having the time/temperment/transparency of a detailed dialogue?  Does Chris Matthews have something else he would rather be doing than covering these primary campaigns?  Seems so.  In that case, I encourage him to retire, or find another occupation.  His views are no longer anything but annoying and his whining is so irritable that I can’t watch him on MSNBC as long as he whines!  I’ve determined to watch CNN from now on (at least they have AWESOME precinct details to display on their board – oh, and sorry about that Keith Oberman – at least I’ll see you by yourself on COUNTDOWN!)

My pride in being a Democrat in these exciting primary times extends to the participation in the precinct caucuses.  One of my siblings told me that there were 113 people at his precinct convention, and that he was the ONLY one out of the 113 that had ever attending a precinct caucus before.  They didn’t even know the procedure and he had to stand up and outline the process to the group before they could proceed.  Another friend told me that her precinct convention had 109 people.  She was one of those who, now in her midlife had never attended a precinct convention in the past.  She’s going on to her county convention as a delegate.  NOW WHAT’S SO BAD ABOUT THIS TYPE OF PARTICIPATION???

Many argue that until the Clinton/Obama choice is resolved that it’s “BAD” for the Democratic Party in the U.S.  Bullcrap!  Let’s allow the people in the remaining primaries to have a voice, to be able to participate in one of the most interesting and captivating political debates in U.S. history.  Sure, you think those Republicans and Bushies (McCain included) will reap the benefits of this type of sparring.  But, I predict you are WRONG.  If our political system is truly one you believe in, then believe that having this type of dialogue, this many debates, and the participation of this many Americans can do NOTHING but reap a better informed electorate and therefore a population that actually CARES about the future of their country.

I LOVE BEING A DEMOCRAT!!!!
