Besides being completely nauseated by the extra-marital confessions of the former governor of New York, the newly sworn-in governor of New York, the former Harris County District Attorney, and the former New Jersey governor, I am totally disgusted.
My disgust is with our media as well as these cheaters. Do we really NEED to know the dirt on these men and their extra-marital affairs? How is it news that these men are all sinners, have fallen short and have disgraced their wives? Believe me, there are many, many men in common jobs, with no fame or fortune who do this everyday. So, basically, there’s no news in this “NEWS”. It only serves to gratify the inate curiosity and delight that we fellow sinners feel when seeing another human being so miserable, and then being caught!
There’s enough crap in this lifetime for every person to face their own sin and reality. Must we broadcast the high profile politicians and celebrities’ short-comings everyday?
I’ve noticed that on the days when there isn’t any “REAL” news to report, we hear and see these sensationalized accounts of men failures. Well, hell, they have to sell newspapers and TV advertisement somehow, I guess. But yesterday, when the media was so fixated on the marital infidelity of the new governor of New York I was wondering how they could put the story of the anniversary of our five years in Iraq on page 2?
As Americans, have we become so shallow, so focused on the gossip, or the scandal that we’ve forgotten about the lies and deception that brought us to five years of wasting the lives of our young men and women? So where’s the responsibility of the media in that one? They take none. Because it doesn’t sell like sin and scandal. So, at the heart of these failures to evaluate and remind ourselves of the real tragedies of life, we substitute the greasy and slimy stories of another man’s failure to live up to his vows.
So, basically, I don’t wonder about it anymore. Men cheat, men get us into wars that destroy lives, men lie. But did I REALLY need to know all the details of their sexual exploits? Nope, not me. As I said before, life hands me enough crap without having to listen to any of those sad stories.
