Today I am in the midst of a battle, a battle to have a good attitude. You see, I’ve spent the last two days working with a potential customer. She has asked me for system requirements, explanation of hosting fees, pricing, even demanded that I choose her titles…she was too busy.
I’ve patiently answered all of her questions, explained and re-explained the content of the documents I’ve sent her. Of course, this person has demanded that I respond “immediately”, without regard to the time consuming task she’s given me of choosing an eBook collection for a group of students based on her description of needs.
Of course, she’s quibbled about pricing, why they can’t host the content themselves, etc. And I’ve taken these questions and objections in stride….always patiently answering her inquiries. Her emails detail how she hasn’t even bothered to read the documents I’ve sent her with detailed information for her IT department. Her questions relay her chosen ignorance of how all of this could work for the benefit of the students. Yet, through all of this two day discourse, I’ve maintained a positive attitude and answered the questions, sometimes more than twice.
So, today I receive her request for the address to which she should send her order. I send it to her via email and receive this response, “We won’t be placing the order with your company. We don’t want to pay the hosting fee. Hope this hasn’t caused you any inconvenience.”
Well, hells bells. It’s my job to prepare quotations, explain new technology to the ignorant purchasing agent, so no, I wasn’t inconvenienced. I’m just aggravated. Annoyed that in our society there are people who do NOT want to understand how technology works. And boy, is she one of them.
This moronic maiden has not one iota of intelligence as to what titles the students may need in their library. She’s a purchasing agent…and really, she doesn’t want to be bothered with anything that isn’t a simple….”can’t you just turn on a switch and make it work?” The basis for her decision came down to “what was easiest”.
Perhaps it’s the same in every society on earth. Perhaps it’s not just Americans who are lazy, refuse to read the details, and expect someone else to come along and make it so they don’t have to do their jobs. I don’t know. But I do know one thing. Today I’m very glad I’m not dealing on a regular basis with school districts anymore. The moron maidens are too prolific in that sector of the workforce. Oh, I’m sure they are very nice people, and they THINK they are doing a good job. But basically, don’t expect them to read, think, prepare, be informed, or formulate an opinion based on fact. Moron maidens are inclined to follow along blindly, failing to reason and deliberate on the facts.
And don’t be mistaken….the morons are NOT just women….there are plenty of men that fit into this category too. So, instead I am choosing to have a good attitude and realize that I have no control over the ignorance and laziness in this society. I just fall on my knees and thank God that I can think.
